Our congregation was organized in 1890.  We have gone through seasons of change, and yet we are constantly renewed by the power of the Holy Spirit.  Today we gather without fail on Sunday mornings at 10 a.m. for worship that praises the Triune God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  We gather around the promises of Jesus Christ revealed in the Holy Bible and in the Sacrament of Holy Communion.  Our people come together with joy, reflecting the beauty of an intergenerational community united in their confidence that God is with us.  We truly have come this far by faith in the Almighty One who will never leave us or forsake us.

St. Philip’s Evangelical Lutheran Church is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), one of the largest Christian denominations in the United States, with nearly 3.3 million members in more than 8,900 worshiping communities across the 50 states and in the Caribbean region.  Our church is part of the ELCA’s Delaware Maryland Synod, and our members are active at every level of synodical ministry in partnership with other Baltimore-area congregations.  Our local bishop is the Rev. William Gohl.  Because God gives us our unity in Christ, we are able to see and respect the diversity within Christ’s body. We honor the diversity of histories, traditions, cultures, languages and experiences among us in the ELCA and in the larger Christian community of faith.

About Us

Meet the Pastor

Pastor Harvard Stephens, Jr., serves as the interim pastor of St. Philip’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Baltimore, Maryland.  Mrs. Linda Stephens also serves St. Philip’s as the Church and Community Coordinator.  We are a strong leadership team working together to support the Congregation and implement plans for faith development and mutual care as the body of Christ.

Pastor and Mrs. Stephens invite you to share in the remarkable journey of this trail-blazing congregation.  Come and worship with us, participate in our activities, and help us respond to the opportunities God has given us to make a difference in the lives of God’s people throughout Baltimore and beyond.  We are confident, that we are in a new season that allows us all to see ‘what a mighty God we serve’.  We are proud to embody the experience of many faithful Christians who respond to questions about the work they are called to do with the invitation: come and see.  As we invite you to St. Philip’s we share in the power of the Holy Spirit to welcome us and equip us and encourage us in this journey of faith.  With thankful hearts, let us welcome one another, in the name of Jesus.

Sincerely,

Pastor Harvard Stephens, Jr., Interim Pastor

Mrs. Linda Stephens, Church and Community Coordinator
