About Us
Our congregation was organized in 1890. We have gone through seasons of change, and yet we are constantly renewed by the power of the Holy Spirit. Today we gather without fail on Sunday mornings at 10 a.m. for worship that praises the Triune God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We gather around the promises of Jesus Christ revealed in the Holy Bible and in the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Our people come together with joy, reflecting the beauty of an intergenerational community united in their confidence that God is with us. We truly have come this far by faith in the Almighty One who will never leave us or forsake us.
St. Philip’s Evangelical Lutheran Church is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), one of the largest Christian denominations in the United States, with nearly 3.3 million members in more than 8,900 worshiping communities across the 50 states and in the Caribbean region. Our church is part of the ELCA’s Delaware Maryland Synod, and our members are active at every level of synodical ministry in partnership with other Baltimore-area congregations. Our local bishop is the Rev. William Gohl. Because God gives us our unity in Christ, we are able to see and respect the diversity within Christ’s body. We honor the diversity of histories, traditions, cultures, languages and experiences among us in the ELCA and in the larger Christian community of faith.
